After reading these truly wonderful reviews, one may wonder, how can a person be blessed with so many qualities. I was diagnosed with cancer five years ago and referred to Mr Thomas Satyadas at MRI who explained every detail regarding my operation, and after care to me. His compassionte and approachable manner settled any doubts that I had before. He personally telephoned my wife immediately after the long period of surgery, & whilst in hospital the care, & attention from the whole team especially Thomas was second to none. Two miner operations, & regular appointments since my first consultation, with Thomas, i have no hesitation in saying that his skills as a surgeon, sensitivity towards his patients & lovely sense of humour, he is indeed a very special person.

I suppose I'm hardly surprised as I sit down to write a review of my experience as a patient of Thomas Satyadas that I am echoing many of the comments already here. Thomas performed a Distal Pancreatectomy on me in July 2013 and I do believe if I had been treated by a lesser surgeon I would probably not be alive today. I won't go into all the complications of my case I will simply sum up my view of Thomas as that is what people who visit this site are here for after all! Surgery is a life changing event, the run up to it can be frightening and the whole experience can be very challenging for everyone and the Surgeon you have makes all of the difference in this. I expect people often hope their surgeon is approachable and has a good manner and is happy to answer questions. Other people may want a surgeon who is spectacularly skilled and at the very top of his profession. Perhaps a vocational and dedicated man who continuously goes far beyond the realms of what a patient could reasonably expect is what you need, or a Surgeon who appreciates a duty of care to your family and ensures your wife is fully informed involved and reassured every step of the way is who you are looking for. I am convinced being able to find all these qualities and more in just one Surgeon would be utterly unique, but then Thomas Satyadas, to my mind, and many others, is just that. If this site is to provide recommendations for Doctors and Surgeons I would simply say this. If Thomas Satyadas is your Surgeon, you couldn't be in better hands. He is everything you could possibly hope for and runs a fantastic team who all seem devoted to him, I feel incredibly lucky and blessed that when I needed someone, it was Thomas who was in my corner. I find this difficult to write because words cannot express the high regard in which I hold the brilliant surgeon Mr Thomas Satyadas. From the first meeting I felt we were in safe hands. On every consultation Mr Satyadas proved to be an excellent listener, allowing plenty of time to discuss treatment. He made us feel as though William was his only patient. He demonstrated sheer determination to get the correct diagnosis and see it through. Because of this, during this time of worry, it was so very reassuring to know we had Mr Satyadas fighting to make William well. A very complex and unbelievably challenging journey resulted in a successful outcome. He performed a distal pancreatectomy to remove a mucinous cystic neoplasm. The surgery took around 14 hours and following this he came out of theatre and explained how everything went in detail. I was totally amazed, relieved and could not have been more grateful. During the time following his surgery Mr Satyadas checked William everyday and would always take time to have a friendly chat whilst enquireing not only about William but about the whole family. William's postoperative care from the entire incredible 'dream team' ensured that his discharge from hospital was early and he recovered with no complications. Infact, we were all able to go on holiday 3 weeks afterwards which is remarkable following such complex surgery. All aspects of his care were ABOVE AND BEYOND. This has been care of the highest standard possible and I cannot thank Mr Thomas Satyadas enough. Thank you. Amanda Timpany

100% for all of the above!!! Mr Satyadas is the friendliest doctor I have ever seen. From the first consultation I had with him at the Alexandra Hospital, he made me feel very welcomed and at ease when explaining the procedure I would have and made me feel relaxed with the whole experience. He explained what happens in my body now, what would happen after the procedure, how the procedure would be done, why the problem I had occurred, etc, and drew illustrations to make what he was explaining to me even more clear. Mr Satyadas also chatted to me about other unrelated things including holidays and plans for the rest of the day, he certainly did not want to just rush my consultation and make me feel like 'just a patient'. I have now had my procedure and Mr Satyadas came to see me on the morning to ensure I was happy with what would happen and to ensure I had complete understanding. Again, Mr Satyadas was very friendly and made me feel calm before my procedure. He came to see me on the morning of the procedure, just before I went into the anaesthetic room, when I was coming round in recovery, went to speak to my family when I was in recovery, came to see me in the evening back on the ward, and again the next morning before I went home. My procedure went very well and I am due to see Mr Satyadas again in August for a follow up appointment. Thankyou for your care Mr Satyadas, thankyou very much.

Earlier this year I had abdominal discomfort and loss of appetite but it was when I became jaundiced in early April that I could no longer ignore these worrying symptoms. I hoped that it might be “just” gallstones but the symptoms could have indicated a much more serious condition so my wife suggested we search for a medical opinion that would encompass all aspects of liver and pancreatic disease. We made an appointment to see Mr Thomas Satyadas following a highly positive recommendation from a friend. I was very anxious at my initial consultation, and so was impressed by Mr Satyadas’s ability to instil a high degree of confidence - he was positive and reassuring whilst being straightforward about the possible diagnoses. He could not have acted more promptly, he arranged CT and MRI scans for the following day whilst we were still in his office so we were able to leave knowing there was a clear course of action in place. Within a couple of hours of having the scans, I received a phone call from Mr Satyadas with the results - I had gallstones and a blocked bile duct but no evidence of a tumour. And again, he had a proposed plan of action - I was admitted to hospital the following day so a consultant gastroenterologist colleague of Mr Satyadas could perform an ECRP to remove the gallstones blocking my bile duct (all arranged by Mr Satyadas). The procedure went smoothly and my jaundice began to clear; the following week I was well enough for Mr Satyadas to suggest he remove the offending gall bladder laparoscopically. I cannot speak too highly of Mr Satyadas. I expected him to be an excellent surgeon and indeed he is; it is all the additional qualities he exudes that make him quite outstanding. Other people on this website have commented that he makes you feel as if you are his only patient and, unlikely as that seems, it is quite true. He is an excellent listener and observer and picked up straight way on my anxiety and was able to strike just the right note of reassurance; he takes great care to explain his thinking and his suggested course of action. His consultations were never hurried and he always allowed time for me to ask my questions; he even gave me his mobile phone number. My wife was very worried about me and Mr Satyadas was incredibly kind and considerate towards her. I was very fortunate that my illness was, in the end, fairly straightforward to deal with, but had the diagnosis been different I would have had the utmost confidence that I was in the best possible hands - those of a supremely skilled surgeon and an outstandingly caring and compassionate person.
